Nassau, The Bahamas — June 17th, 2026 — The Insurance Commission of The Bahamas (ICB), in partnership with the Bahamas Insurance Association (BIA), today hosted a Hurricane Preparedness Webinar to help Bahamians better protect their property and financial wellbeing ahead of the hurricane season. The session was hosted by Ms. Daneisha Clarke, Senior Communications Analyst at the Insurance Commission of The Bahamas, who facilitated an engaging and interactive discussion.

Representing the BIA were Mrs. Ruthnell Bethell, Claims Manager at CG Atlantic General Insurance, and Mr. Christopher Day, Managing Director and Co-Owner of Technical Adjusters Bahamas Limited. Together, they shared practical insights centered on understanding your risk, knowing your insurance coverage, being prepared before and after a storm, and navigating the claims process giving participants a clearer understanding of what to expect in the event of a loss.

A key focus of the webinar was the importance of reading and understanding insurance policies and conducting annual reviews in collaboration with insurance brokers to ensure adequate protection. Presenters highlighted concerns around underinsurance and the often-overlooked need for contents insurance, both of which are critical in reducing financial vulnerability after a disaster.

The session encouraged active participation, with attendees asking questions and seeking clarity on coverage and claims, reinforcing the need for continued education and open dialogue around insurance. This webinar served as an important conversation starter, encouraging Bahamians to revisit their policies and make informed decisions about their coverage.

The Insurance Commission of The Bahamas reaffirmed its commitment to protecting policyholders and promoting a strong, transparent, and resilient insurance industry, while continuing to empower consumers through education and outreach initiatives.
