IOPS 2025 Global Forum on Private Pensions

The Insurance Commission of The Bahamas was proud to attend the 2025 Global Forum on Private Pensions, held in Istanbul, Türkiye, on 6–7 November. The event brought together 130 senior officials and leading experts from 52 countries to discuss the future of private pension systems worldwide.

The OCDE, in collaboration with the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS), the Turkish Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Authority (IPRSA), and the Pension Monitoring Center of Türkiye (PMC), jointly organized this year’s Forum. The opening remarks set the tone for two days of insightful dialogue, featuring contributions from Astrid Ludin (IOPS President), Carmine Di Noia (OECD Director for Financial and Enterprise Affairs), and Hande Hatunoğlu Kurtulan (IPRSA Vice Chair).

The Commission’s participation was significant, as The Bahamas officially became a Governing Member of IOPS in September 2025. This membership marks an important step forward in our commitment to strengthening pension supervision and aligning with global best practices.

Discussions at the Forum covered a wide range of topics, including digitalisation in pensions, asset-backed pension systems, payout phase design and supervision, life cycle strategies, voluntary pension participation, and the role of pension funds in capital market development. These conversations featured insights from global experts and regulators, offering valuable perspectives that will inform our work in The Bahamas.

As we look ahead, the Insurance Commission is excited about the opportunities that lie ahead through our collaboration with IOPS. We remain committed to advancing a resilient, transparent, and inclusive pension system that supports long-term financial security for Bahamian citizens.
